Description
Wildcrafted Yellow Dock Root
Botanical Name: Rumex crispus
Organic Status: Wildcrafted
Country of Origin: Poland
Plant Part: Root
Yellow Dock has a very long tradition of use, dating back to Ancient Greece, and was documented by Hippocrates, Dioscorides, and Pliny the Elder. The Doctrine of Signatures was used in Ancient Greece to associate herbs with different body parts or conditions, and yellow herbs like Yellow Dock, were often associated with the Liver and Digestion, as well as skin complaints.
Yellow Dock is rich in plant based (non-haeme) iron, as it naturally concentrates in the root of this plant, along with other minerals.
Caution should be taken with this herb as it contains natural constituents called anthraquinones, which are stimulating laxatives, so consumption in larger amounts may cause diarrhoea, stomach pains and nausea. It is best consumed in smaller amounts, such as 1/2 teaspoon detailed below, and should be avoided if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a bowel or intestinal obstruction.
