Chai Poached Pears: A Simple, Spiced Delight

When it comes to easy yet elegant desserts, Chai Poached Pears are a timeless favourite. This recipe combines the natural sweetness of pears with the rich, spiced flavours of My Herb Clinic’s Masala Chai Tea, creating a warm, comforting treat that’s perfect for any season. Whether you're entertaining guests or simply craving something sweet after dinner, this dessert is sure to impress.

Why Chai Poached Pears?

Poached pears are a classic dessert for a reason — their tender texture and subtle sweetness pair wonderfully with a variety of flavourings. In this recipe, the addition of Masala Chai Tea brings a whole new depth to the dish. The aromatic spices in the chai — such as cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves — infuse the pears with a gentle warmth and spice that’s hard to resist.

But why stop at just any tea? At My Herb Clinic, our Masala Chai Tea is carefully crafted to bring you the finest blend of spices and herbs, ensuring that every bite of your poached pears is packed with rich, authentic flavour. The tea is naturally caffeine-free, so you can enjoy it as a dessert without worrying about a late-night caffeine kick.

Ingredients You’ll Need

How to Make Chai Poached Pears

1. Prepare the Chai Tea

Take 2 Tablespoons My Herb Clinic’s Masala Chai Tea and wrap it in a piece of cheesecloth, tying the ends with string. This will allow the tea to infuse into the poaching liquid without leaving any tea behind.

2. Make the Poaching Liquid

In a large saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.

3. Infuse the Chai

Place the wrapped Masala Chai Tea into the simmering liquid. Let it steep for about 5-7 minutes, or until the liquid is infused with the chai flavours. You can remove the tea at this stage, or leave it longer to infuse stronger flavours. The result will be a fragrant, aromatic poaching liquid that will perfectly complement the pears.

4. Poach the Pears

Add the pears to the simmering chai-infused liquid. Make sure the pears are mostly submerged. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan. Let the pears poach for 30-40 minutes, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork. You can spoon the liquid over the pears occasionally to ensure they cook evenly.

5. Serve and Enjoy

Remove the pears from the poaching liquid and place them in serving bowls. Also remove the tea if this was still in the pot. Turn the heat on high and reduce the poaching liquid until it begins to thicken to a syrup (around 20 minutes). Pour the syrup over the pears.

These Chai Poached Pears are delicious on their own, but you can also add a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream to take the dessert to the next level.

A Perfect Dessert for Any Occasion

Chai Poached Pears are perfect for those who want a simple yet sophisticated dessert. The warm spices from the Masala Chai Tea create a delightful contrast to the sweetness of the pears, making this dish a comforting treat for chilly nights or a lovely finish to a hearty meal. The best part? This dessert requires minimal ingredients and is easy to prepare, making it a stress-free option for anyone looking to impress.
